Resumo: Several techniques have emerged as complement or replacement for trabeculectomy, the standard surgery for glaucoma. Device-modified trabeculectomy is a recently developed technique whose results compared to the classical technique have not been fully defined. To answer this question, we used Epistemonikos, the largest database of systematic reviews in health, which is maintained by screening multiple information sources, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, among others. We identified eight systematic reviews including 34 studies overall. We extracted data from the systematic reviews, reanalyzed data of primary studies, conducted a meta-analysis and generated a summary of findings table using the GRADE approach. We concluded device-modified trabeculectomy probably leads to greater overall success rate and may decrease intraocular pressure more than classical surgery. In addition, this technique would probably have a better safety profile than standard trabeculectomy.
